The surgery room at our clinic has been specially designed to provide the best possible care for your horse and meets the highest standards of safety and hygiene, including in terms of organizational procedures. Before every surgical procedure, we carry out a general health check on your horse (including measuring the temperature, respiratory rate and pulse as well as listening to the heart and lungs) and record all other relevant information, especially for the dosage of the anesthetic. Only then do we sedate your horse in order to be able to carry out further preparatory measures, such as clipping and disinfecting the skin in the operating theatre area. Sedation ensures that this is as stress-free as possible for your horse and also offers our team increased safety.
An experienced anesthetist will then administer the anesthetic to your horse in a stabling box. A special device will ensure that your horse goes down gently and carefully. With the help of a crane, we will then place your horse on the operating table and position it on its side or back, depending on the procedure. It will then be intubated and connected to the inhalation anesthesia.
Following the procedure, we will place your horse in a recovery box that has been specially designed for this purpose. Padding on the floor and walls ensures that your horse can wake up from the anesthetic with as little risk as possible.
If an operation has to be performed at short notice due to an emergency, our team is always prepared for this.
