The pre-purchase examination is an essential step when acquiring a horse to assess its health and suitability for its intended use. In our equine clinic, we conduct a comprehensive examination to provide security for both buyers and sellers.
Scope of Services
The pre-purchase examination begins with a preliminary discussion to determine the desired scope of the examination and any specific focus areas. A general clinical examination is then performed to assess the heart, lungs, skin, eyes, teeth, digestive system, and overall conformation of the horse.
The orthopedic examination includes evaluating the limbs for heat, swelling, or other abnormalities, as well as analyzing the horse’s movement at both walk and trot. Flexion tests are also performed. If necessary, additional assessments on different surfaces or under a rider may be conducted.
For further diagnostics, standardized X-rays can be taken to evaluate bone structures and joints. Additional optional examinations, such as blood tests, ultrasound, or endoscopy, are also available. Finally, findings are documented in a detailed report, accompanied by a professional assessment for the buyer.

Important Information for Buyers and Sellers:
The pre-purchase examination provides a snapshot of the horse’s current health status but does not guarantee its future development. The buyer decides which examinations will be performed. X-ray images and examination reports are provided in digital format.
A blood test can be useful to detect foreign substances and ensure that the examination is not influenced by medications that could alter the results.
